Philly Cheesesteak French Bread Pizza is a fun weeknight meal or the perfect make-at-home appetizer!Philly Cheesesteak French Bread Pizza is a fun weeknight meal or the perfect make-at-home appetizer! These french bread pizzas are perfect for entertaining.

With an almost non-existent amount of work and the ability to create a lot at one time, they are a great holiday party appetizer or game day treat. Loaded with all kinds of cheesy goodness, tender steak and caramelized onions, these Philly cheesesteak french bread pizzas are a must-add to your holiday entertaining menus!

Welp, we did it, didn’t we? The holidays are just about over, and while I’m sure those decorations are still up and our stomachs are just about ready to explode, we still have a little bit more celebrating to do. With New Year’s Eve right around the corner and football season still in its prime, we can’t put away those baking pans and serving platters away just yet!

I think my favorite thing about the holidays is the entertaining aspect of them, and I personally think the best time to do that is in between Christmas and New Year’s. Families and friends come together for one last hurrah; and let’s be honest, it’s all about the food. Most holidays revolve around food and I’m so not sad about it. While Zach and I ring in the New Year just like everyone else does, we tend to keep things low-key. We don’t normally go out to a big New Year’s Eve party. We don’t stay out until the wee hours of the morning. We like to entertain in our own home, where we can lounge around in our sweats and be close to our bed if need be. Just because we tend to keep things casual, doesn’t mean we don’t go crazy when it comes to the food.

French bread pizzas are our go-to bite-sized grub when we are entertaining, and we have made many a French bread pizzas in our day. They are easy, portable, and so insanely delicious that most of the time our guests are coming back for seconds, thirds…and sometimes we have to whip up a few more.

This recipe for Philly cheesesteak French bread pizza is just the latest of many French bread pizza recipes to have entered our warm and toasty oven. It is loaded with all kinds of cheesy deliciousness. The tender steak adds some much need protein and the caramelized onions provide some most necessary sweetness. Oh, and that cheese sauce? Can I even begin to explain how addicting it is? Seriously, you guys, I could slurp that stuff up with a spoon and totally not apologize for it.

The only thing that makes me absolutely crazy about making French bread pizzas is the mess. If I haven’t mentioned this before, I am definitely kind of psychotic when it comes to cleanliness. Our house is literally always spotless, and that’s probably because I spend about 2 hours every day scrubbing, vacuuming, and cleaning up dishes. These Philly cheesesteak French bread pizzas are messssssssssss-y. Crumbs EVERYWHERE…cheese sauce literally CAKED to the pan. I have to let that pan soak for about a week after I make it. Not kidding. Forget it if we do a make-your-own french bread pizza night. It’s like the kitchen exploded. Oh, and don’t even get me started on the dirty dishes. With entertaining, this just goes without saying. You will have a million and one dirty dishes.

You guys, this faucet is like a dream come true. It makes washing dishes so less daunting, and I don’t care who you are…There are some dishes that just do NOT go in the dishwasher. The Delta Faucet with its TOUCH2O® Technology makes cleaning up so easy. Cleaning can be fun you guys! What would normally drive you crazy (like washing dishes) can now be a #HappiMess with #DeltaLiving! You literally touch the faucet and it turns on. This is especially helpful when you have your hands and arms wrist-deep in water, and you can use your elbow to turn it on. I have done this. I am not ashamed.

Cleaning up a big old mess never made me as happy as it does now, and you all know about my obsession with cleanliness. ;) A big old pile of dishes is kind of like confirming that you’re a fab hostess after a great night of mingling and socializing with the ones you love most.

Also, the coolest and my favorite feature of this faucet is the little light indicator that tells you if the water is hot or cold. GENIUS! No more scalding my fingers to test the water temperature. Genius.

Embrace your #HappiMess with my Philly cheesesteak french bread pizzas! The recipe is below but please share your holiday entertaining #HappiMess in the comments and on your social channels! Those dishes will be done in no time, leaving you more time to spend with the ones you love most! I hope you guys enjoy and have a wonderful New Year! Talk to you soon! xo

Prep Time 40 minutes

Total Time 1 hour 10 minutes

Ingredients

Cheese Sauce

  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

Philly Cheesesteak French Bread Pizza

  • 1 pound beef steak placed in the freezer for 30 minutes (I used a top round steak, but boneless sirloin or ribeye works well here too)
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 medium yellow onion sliced thin
  • salt and black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable or canola oil
  • 1 loaf French bread cut in half lengthwise
  • 8 slices of provolone cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1-2 cups cheese sauce from above
  • 2 tablespoons chopped oregano

Instructions

Cheese Sauce

  • In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour and whisk until golden, about 1 minute. Whisk in the milk and continue to cook until slightly thickened about 5-6 minutes. In 1/4 cup increments, add the cheddar cheese to the milk. Make sure each batch is completely melted before adding the next. Keep warm on the stove while you prepare your french bread pizza.

  • Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F and line a large baking sheet with foil. Set aside.
  • Make sure your steak has been in the freezer for at least 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, remove the steak from the freezer and slice thinly and against the grain. Set aside.
  • Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Melt the butter and add the onion. Season with salt and black pepper. Cook until tender and slightly caramelized, about 7-8 minutes. Remove the onions with a slotted spoon and transfer to a plate. Keep the skillet on over medium heat.
  • Add the oil to the pan, and then add the beef. Season with salt and black pepper and cook until no pink remains, about 4 minutes. Add the onions back to the pan and stir to combine. Remove from heat.
  • Place the two halves of the bread on the prepared baking sheet. If desired, tear out some of the bread from the center and discard or use it to make bread crumbs. Spray the two halves with nonstick spray and line each loaf with provolone cheese (about 4 slices per half). Divide the steak mixture between both halves and sprinkle with mozzarella cheese.
  • Place the pan in the oven and bake for 10 minutes or until the cheese is melted and the edges are slightly golden. Remove from heat.
  • Cut the french bread pizza into 4 sections each and drizzle with cheese sauce. Garnish with fresh oregano and enjoy immediately!
