I’m always trying to incorporate nuts somewhere into my diet, and pistachios are normally at the top of that list. Pistachios are one of those nuts that are so versatile and can so easily be used in sweet and savory recipes. I’m ALWAYS looking for new ways to incorporate them into my diet. Today though, I wanted to make that pistachio shine, and the best way to make it shine is by keeping it simple, delicious and pairing it with some scrumptious other snacks that make my world go round!
We all snack, let’s be honest with ourselves, but I think most of us associate snacking with an activity that is usually not so good for us. I am here to prove you wrong today! Snacking does not have to include a ton of salty chips or sugary cookies.
By being super careful in which items you choose to snack on, it can be a most pleasant/amazing experience!
I snack ALL the time. I mean ALL the time. I’m definitely one of those people that can’t just sit down and watch TV or a movie without having a big bowl of something in front of me.
Pistachios are definitely one of my go-to snacking foods of choice and I can go on and on about why this is. I won’t go crazy on you today, but there are some things you guys should definitely know about!
First of all, there’s this little thing called “The Pistachio Principle.” Yes, this really does exist, and it’s incredible. I promise! “The Pistachio Principle” is a simple, yet mindful eating concept that may help you fool yourself full – without acquiring that feeling that you are depriving yourself.
Second of all, by purchasing the in-shell pistachio variety, it helps in slowing your consumption. The premise is that consumption of in-shell pistachios may help to slow eating when compared to shelled pistachios because the leftover shells may offer an important visual cue about the amount consumed, and this could potentially decrease that calorie intake! How is that for a total win!
In 2015, pistachios were given the ultra amazing name “The Skinny Nut.” They are insanely high in protein, low in fat and calories.
Also, they are delicious, so ya know. ;)
Shell-In Pistachios
Mandarin Oranges or Clementines
and…
The best dark chocolate money can buy!
(Make sure you buy the good stuff. This is super important!)
Dark chocolate and oranges are just a natural pairing (at least in my world they are) and the saltiness that you get from the pistachios just sends the pairing over the edge into a whole new world of delicious snacking flavor!
The Pistachio Health Institute has been kind enough to host a sweepstakes where you can enter to win a year supply of pistachios! I don’t know about you guys, but it would most definitely make my life to win all of those pistachios!
Enter the The Year of the Skinny Nut Sweepstakes brought to you by the Pistachio Health Institute Facebook page for a chance to win and start 2015 in style! Sweepstakes runs from January 7 – January 31, 2015.
I hope you guys are enjoying what’s left of your weekends! I’ll see you all tomorrow! xo
